Annotated line
MaxOne metric over equal ordered periods as a line over a soft area. Supplied events are pinned to their exact periods as numbered markers on the line, each with a measured callout card holding its label, the exact value at that period and an optional short description, placed in clear space beside the curve with a short leader when it sits further out. The first and last values are labelled, and a caption states that events are noted at their period.

When to use it
Suits explaining the turns in one measure over time: monthly active users with launches and outages, revenue with pricing changes, support volume with policy changes, website traffic with campaigns, headcount with reorganisations. Needs one finite value per period in one unit and 2–6 events at distinct supplied periods. Not for several series compared against each other, unequal time gaps, events between periods, or claims that an event caused a change.
