Chart: cohort layer cake
MaxEqual periods along a shared value axis from zero, with one stacked area per cohort that begins at its own starting period, oldest cohort at the base, so each new cohort adds a layer on top and the staggered edge shows when it arrived. Exact derived period totals sit above the stack, and every cohort is named at the right edge with its latest exact amount.

When to use it
Use to show how groups acquired at different times keep contributing to one additive total: revenue by customer cohort, active users by signup year, donations by donor cohort, or orders by first-purchase quarter. Each cohort supplies an amount for its starting period and every later one, all in one unit. Not for retention shares (use a cohort triangle), for series that all span every period (use a stacked area or stacked columns), or for values that do not add up.
